Profile
For nearly seven decades, Paul Stuart has stuck to and perfected the all-American, high-prep, down-to-business aesthetic favored by Madison Avenue admen—think of it as where the Man in the Gray Flannel Suit might have shopped, if his holiday bonus came in on the hefty side. Outfitted with shiny oak woodwork, carpeted in rusty orange, navy and red, and furnished with slouchy, comfortable brown leather couches, the three-level store feels like a testosterone-soaked grand hotel or casino. The first and third floors, dedicated to menswear, are full of beautifully tailored shirts, sporting attire, sweaters, leather and wool outerwear, undergarments and accessories like grosgrain belts and suspenders, or braces; also on three are two gigantic rooms of swank formal suits, blazers and trousers. The second floor mezzanine houses the comparatively small women’s shop (with its conservative, but colorful, slacks, skirts, suits and blouses) and the menswear made-to-measure department, for gents longing to release their inner Cary Grant. And unlike the staff at many similar old-school places, the staff at Paul Stuart are entirely unpretentious and devoid of swarm. You'll find yourself trusting them before they've even sized you up.
SalesIn January and June, reductions on selected men's and women's clothing and accessories.
Key Departments
Men's FormalwearTucked in among the suits are several tuxedos, along with pleated-bib, straight-collar, and wing-collar shirts, cummerbunds, and vest sets. Classic and whimsical cuff links (like elephants and donkeys for the political at heart, or ladybugs for good luck) are available in sterling silver or one-of-a-kind gold vintage.
Cuff LinksPaul Stuart’s cuff links are exactly what you’d expect from this temple of luxurious, ultratraditional menswear. There are simple styles spruced up with enameled geometric and abstract patterns, as well as seriously covetable vintage diamond-and-onyx ones.

While the rest of the city scurries up and down Broadway, these three micro–shopping districts remain blissfully unpicked-over.
