Profile
Some nights, this Lower East Side bar is just an unremarkable place to meet up with friends and share a few drinks. (There isn’t even draft beer.) But three nights a week, the joint comes alive with raunchy burlesque acts filled with crass jokes and glittering with pasties. Sightlines to the small stage at back can kind of suck which leaves some customers standing on the high-backed booths to get an eyeful of the young beauties (and the occasional stocky guy) performing in often bizarre costumes to equally peculiar music. Red-tinted lights may allude to Amsterdam, but this place is classier than that. There must be a reason why burlesque has gone out of fashion, but after a trip to the Slipper Room, you still won’t know the answer.
