Profile
Artist and furniture designer Susan Woods displays her intricate, high-end creations using reclaimed and recycled materials in this elegant Dumbo showroom. Woods has kept a workshop in the Brooklyn Navy Yard since 2003, hosting regular “Art in the Yard” exhibits there, and she unveiled this sleek waterfront space in 2008. Aswoon features high ceilings and walls of windows, and Woods’s unusual designs regularly attract gawking passersby. Here, Woods builds upon her two signature collections, Spring Screen and New Wave, which have been commissioned for the windows of Anne Taylor on Madison Avenue, the V.I.P. lounge at Newark Airport, and the halls of the Park Avenue W Hotel. The Spring Screen line incorporates intertwined coiled, flattened bedsprings into decorative partitions, totem lamps, and curvy lounge chairs. Her shapely, serpentine New Wave series includes chaise lounges, benches, and tables formed from bent strips of polished plywood. In addition, select designs are also sold at ABC Carpet and Home.
