Profile
In the eighties, New York fashion designer Amsale Aberra was unable to find the desired elegantly simple wedding dress—so she created her own. Soon, she was producing a line of bridal gowns in her garment-district loft, and today, eager bride-to-be’s and their entourages must book in advance to shop in her spacious and serene second-floor boutique. Here, wedding gowns are suspended from ceiling bars thereby creating their own version of the march down the aisle in the center of the store. (Bridesmaids dresses are also available.) All items subscribe to Aberra’s original concept, which means minimal fuss even when adorned with jewels, lace, or ruffles. Further proof that the designer has been there, done that? The fitting rooms are large enough to accommodate friends and relatives.
Key Departments
BridesmaidsThe designs from this upscale Madison Avenue bridal salon eschew frills for classic looks that are just as cocktail-party-appropriate as they are fit for a walk down the aisle. Amsale's satin Empire dresses, georgette V-back gowns, and tissue-taffeta knotted-cuff gowns will command the groomsmen's rapt attention.
Bridal GownsAmsale Aberra's elegant gowns are favorites of society-page regulars, who covet their clean lines and sophisticated shapes. Kenneth Pool is their more contemporary line. Made-to-order and couture gowns are available. Alterations not included.
