Profile
With its mismatched bookshelves, hardwood floors, and eclectic art on exposed brick walls, Manhattan Theatre Source feels more like a satellite living room than an Off-Off Broadway theater. But once inside the 19th-century former storefront, you're unlikely to complain about the informality of the WiFi equipped café, the makeshift gallery, the upstairs bookstore or even the tiny 50-seat "brick-box" theater that puts audiences within spittle range of the performers. Founded in 2000, this little not-for-profit has spawned profitable productions like the Obie-award winning [title of show], but the charm of the space itself, with its shelves of donated scripts, resource books and opera recordings for sale, leaves you thinking first and foremost: Could this place be any cuter?
