If last year’s opening-night choice proved inspired (remember a little thing called The Queen?), this year’s also seems auspicious: Wes Anderson’s brothers-traveling-through-India film, The Darjeeling Limited. It’s one of several family-themed movies at the NYFF: There’s Noah Baumbach’s Margot at the Wedding; Sidney Lumet’s brother-robber caper Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead; and Brian De Palma’s controversial drama Redacted (his first NYFF film), about the murder of an Iraqi family by American soldiers. And then there are the Coen brothers, whose Cannes-acclaimed No Country for Old Men marks their first appearance here since Miller’s Crossing in 1990.
