- Harry’s Shoes for Kids
-
2315 Broadway; 212-874-2034
This Upper West Side classic moved its bustling kids’ shoe department into a stand-alone location down the block last October—and now it’s busier than ever. What keeps parents coming back is Harry’s comprehensive but well-ordered choice of footwear for boys and girls. Although it can get packed on weekends and during the back-to-school season, it’s worth braving the crowds for the extensive selection (from traditionally styled prestige brands like Aster and Primigi to trendier labels like Puma, Uggs, and Crocs) and wide variety of designs (from flip-flops to dress shoes), along with what’s arguably the city’s widest range of Ecco’s kids’ footwear (one of the biggest sellers here). Little feet will be in good hands with Harry’s supremely skilled fitters … at least for a few months, until it’s time for a new pair.

Competition breeds the best. If only one pizzeria existed in New York, of course, there’d be no real winning slice. Thankfully, we’ll never know what that sorry situation tastes like, since pizza—like dance parties, dog runs, and fried chicken—has to evolve upward here.
