Don’t be put off by the décor, or rather the extreme lack thereof, at this Upper West Side shop. Albee has been supplying urban parents with wheels for more than 70 years, and its huge selection and deeply knowledgeable staff put the store a notch above its competitors. Stock ranges from the inexpensive (Kolcraft umbrella strollers, Snap n’ Go travel-system frames) to mid-priced (Maclaren, Combi, Peg Pérego) to deluxe (Urban Mountain Buggies, Bugaboo, Phil & Ted). Unlike other stores, which stock buggies on out-of-reach shelves, Albee puts them on ground level where you can test-drive them. Delivery is free. One caveat: Their online prices are often lower, but buying in the store gets you 90 days’ worth of free repairs.
Best Strollers
From the 2006 Best of New York issue of New York Magazine
Competition breeds the best. If only one pizzeria existed in New York, of course, there’d be no real winning slice. Thankfully, we’ll never know what that sorry situation tastes like, since pizza—like dance parties, dog runs, and fried chicken—has to evolve upward here.
